Born in Guernsey, Angélique Lihou entered the Purcell School in 2003 where she studied with Michal Kaznowski. She is currently a pupil of Alice Neary at the Royal College of Music.
Angélique has attended Croatia, Montpellier and Recanati International Music Festivals, participating in masterclasses with Johannes Goritzki, Mats Lidström, Ralph Kirshbaum and Bernard Greenhouse. In August 2007 she attended the Côte des Isles Cello Festival in Carteret, France with Alexander Baillie.
Angélique Lihou has appeared as concerto soloist with the Guernsey Youth Orchestra in 2003, performing Haydn’s Concerto in C both in Guernsey and on tour in Sydney, Australia. In 2007 Angélique performed Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto No.1 with the St. James Sinfonia.
Recent chamber music recitals include the Schumann Piano Quartet in E flat Major at the Wigmore Hall, and the Bax Harp Quintet and Elgar Piano Quintet in A Minor for The Institute of Musical Research, University of London and Gresham College. She has performed at The Purcell Room as part of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ birthday celebration concerts and premiered a piano trio by Isa Khan at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
As an orchestral cellist Angélique has performed in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra at St John’s Smith Square, Dukes Hall and the Barbican. With Channel Island Orchestras she has performed at the Royal Festival Hall as well as touring the USA and Sydney.
Angélique has been principal cello of the RCM Sinfonietta, and is currently principal cello of the London Irish Symphony Orchestra, which recently performed at the Cadogan Hall in aid of the NSPCC.
Angélique enjoys collaborating with new composers, having premiered pieces by Edward Southall at The Warehouse for the Park Lane Group and performed with Natalie Clein in an RCM composer/cellist project. Angélique also plays the electric cello for pop singer Karen Bishko. In December 2007 the band supported Take That at the O2 Arena and Manchester Evening News Arena on their ‘Beautiful World’ Tour.
Current season/future concerts include Haydn’s Concerto in D with the St. James Sinfonia and a string quartet recital in the Vaughn Williams festival.
