Bruno Bower was born in 1987. He took up the violin at age 8, although gave it up not long after starting on the oboe at age 11. He is currently in his third year reading music at Oriel College, Oxford. He is currently studying with Celia Nicklin, and has played several solo recitals in Oxford and London, as well as performances in London of Vivaldi and Bach concertos for Oboe and Violin, and of the Albinoni D minor concerto in Oxford and Paris with the Oxford String Ensemble.
He is also a keen orchestral player, having played with the majority of Oxford University’s premier ensembles, including Oxford University Orchestra, Philharmonia, and Sinfonietta, along with Ensemble ISIS, a group dedicated to the performance of student compositions. A keen composer, with a particular interest in incidental music for theatre, his Double Bass Concerto was premiered by Tom Martin and the Oxford Philomusica, Oxford’s professional orchestra, in May last year. He is currently planning to study Oboe at the Birmingham Conservatoire next year.
