Caroline Kögler - Alto

Caroline Kögler was born in Aachen, Germany, and is currently living in Münster, Germany, to complete her teaching and economics degrees. Inspired by her mother’s love for classical music and jazz, she started playing the piano at 8 and not much later started singing in different choirs in and around Aachen.

In 2006, Caroline came to Exeter for her year abroad. She was awarded the University’s music scholarship for the piano, but also took part in different choirs and music scholars’ concerts as a singer. At Exeter University, she performed solos in Faure’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas.

Caroline has always been in touch with the arts: she is a painter, enjoys making music and has a love for literature that has been enhanced by her studies. However, although she believes in the power of words, their precision and their potential to change and surprise, she does know that music will evoke and transport meaning that words in their explicitness fail to describe. She is grateful that within the music scholars program she was given the opportunity to explore further this language that somehow goes beyond words. By participating in musical projects such as Situation Opera, Caroline is glad that she can bring back to life and enrich some of the experiences that she made in England – experiences that are maybe lost in translation, but that have made a difference nonetheless.
