Melanie read Philosophy and English at Sussex University before entering Trinity College of Music on the Post Graduate Diploma. She will complete the Advanced PG course this year studying with Ameral Gunson. In 2006 Melanie was a finalist in the inaugural John Kerr Award for English Song, and this year was selected to participate in the Thelma King Award. In 2007 Melanie was awarded the Paul Simm Opera Prize for her portrayal of ‘Mére Marie’ in Dialogues des Carmelites.
Rôles includes ‘Nirena’, Julius Caesar (Runaway Opera); ‘Ottavia’, The Coronation of Poppea, (Morley Opera); ‘Mrs Ham’, Noye’s Fludde (Charles Court Opera); ‘Mercedes’ Carmen (MeanTime Opera); ‘Idamante’, Idomeneo (Morley Opera); ‘Second Lady’, The Magic Flute (Opera Playhouse). In 2008 Melanie was a soloist in Rosenmuller’s Vespers and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and gave recitals of English and French and German song as part of the Postgraduate Recital Series at Blackheath Halls. Forthcoming engagements include ‘Sorceress’, Dido and Aeneas, and Marcellina, Le nozze di Figaro.
